Mr Turnip — Original BBC Whirligig Television Puppet
The original Mr Turnip television marionette, handmade by Joy Laurey for the BBC's Whirligig and first seen in 1950. Retained by Joy until his sale through Vectis in 2007, the surviving puppet retains his mechanisms, costume, original Joy Laurey Puppet Studio carrying case and an important group of associated props and clothing. Mr Turnip is now in a private collection and is very well loved and cared for by his present owner. JLA-0001 is a reference record; the physical puppet is not held by The Joy Laurey Archive.
