A Note to the Audience — Laurey Puppet Company promotional booklet

An illustrated promotional booklet titled “a note to the audience (future, past and present) from The Laurey Puppet Company”. The booklet gives an unusually detailed account of the company’s history, philosophy and working methods, including its origins in 1936 and establishment in 1938, the use of string and glove puppets, stagecraft, scenery, music, special effects and the company’s work in theatres, films, variety, cabaret, schools and private performances. It includes sections headed “The Why”, “And Wherefore”, “The Who and What”, “The Laurey Puppets’ Repertory” and “The Where and When”, together with profiles of Dorrie Johnson, Joy Laurey, Honor Laurey and Ian Robertson. An inserted endorsement is signed by W. Macqueen-Pope, Press Representative at Drury Lane. The booklet was an exceptionally important primary source for Stuart Woodhead’s research and book on Joy Laurey. The cover features Snippet tangled in typewriter ribbon.
