Mr Turnip Jumping Jack Cardboard Puppet

An articulated cardboard 'Jumping Jack' puppet of Mr Turnip, produced by Tower Press Ltd as part of the character's 1950s television merchandise. The printed card figure is jointed at the shoulders and body and operated by a surviving pull-string mechanism, allowing the limbs to move. Research comparing surviving Mr Turnip merchandise identifies this Tower Press issue as the commercially produced Jumping Jack, distinct from the separate Mr Turnip cardboard cut-out issued on cereal packaging. This example retains its string and metal pull piece and shows Mr Turnip in his familiar brown jacket, ruffled white shirt, bow tie and green trousers.
