Mr Turnip Wire-Framed Rag Doll — Dean's Rag Book Co.
A vintage Mr Turnip character doll made in England by Dean's Rag Book Co. Ltd of London. The figure has a painted moulded head with Mr Turnip's distinctive large eyes, pointed ears and curled topknot, combined with a soft fabric body and clothing built around an internal wire frame. He wears a faded red-brown jacket, pale waistcoat and necktie, green trousers and dark fabric shoes. A surviving stitched manufacturer's label reads “Made in England by Dean's Rag Book Co. Ltd, London”. The doll measures approximately 15 in / 38 cm tall. The internal wire construction allows the limbs to be posed and distinguishes this example from more conventional soft rag dolls. This is a scarce surviving piece of licensed Mr Turnip merchandise from the character's 1950s television popularity.
