Mr Turnip Glove Puppet Head — Attributed to Ron Louth or Percy Mortimer
A surviving hard head for a Mr Turnip glove puppet, painted with the character's large blue-grey eyes, prominent red nose and mouth, pointed ears and distinctive forehead curl. The head has been attributed to either Ron Louth or Percy Mortimer, although the maker is not yet confirmed. It appears to be formed from a lightweight moulded material, possibly pumice or a related composite. Its exact original use is also uncertain; it may have formed part of a glove puppet made for sale or may possibly have been produced as a fairground or novelty prize. These possibilities remain subject to further research.
